Initiatives

The Black Class Action Secretariat (BCAS) undertakes a wide range of activities to combat systemic discrimination and promote justice for people of African descent. Among our various efforts, we have two key initiatives that focus on addressing discrimination both nationally within Canada and globally:

1. Coalition Against Workplace Discrimination (CAWD)

Within Canada, the Coalition Against Workplace Discrimination (CAWD) is a vital part of our advocacy efforts to eliminate systemic discrimination in the workplace. CAWD unites labor unions, advocacy groups, and civil society organizations to confront discriminatory practices, advance inclusive policies, and promote equity in workplaces across the country. This coalition represents our commitment to ensuring fair treatment and equal opportunities for all, driving national change through collective action and strategic advocacy.

2. Global Litigation and Advocacy Network for People of African Descent (GLANPAD)

On the international front, the Global Litigation and Advocacy Network for People of African Descent (GLANPAD) extends our mission beyond Canada’s borders. Established at the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, GLANPAD leverages strategic litigation and advocacy to combat systemic discrimination worldwide. By uniting legal experts, activists, and communities, GLANPAD seeks to secure reparations, promote justice, and drive systemic changes across multiple sectors, including employment, education, healthcare, and more. This initiative reflects our global commitment to advancing the rights and dignity of people of African descent.
